Australian Dietetics Dynamo Nathan, also known as DudeFoodHealth, is at it again with some truly EPIC healthy barbeque tips.
Healthy BBQ Tips from The Land Down Under
As summer begins in Canada and the weather starts to heat up, so too does the barbecue. Meanwhile it (finally) starts to cool down in Australia, but thankfully we don’t need much of an excuse to fire up the BBQ. If you tend to over indulge and are looking to have a lighter, more fulfilling lunch, here are some great nutritious options.
1. Mix up your meat skewers with vegetables
a. Soak wooden skewers for 30 minutes in water
b. Choose and prepare your vegetables – capsicum, tomato, mushroom, onion, eggplant are all great skewer option
c. Chop vegetables and meat into bite sized pieces then thread onto the skewer
d.BBQ and you’re done!’
2. Don’t make meat the star of your dish, try something new.
Focusing too heavily on the meat could lead you to over indulge and feel more regretful than thankful. Trying a new style of food is a great way to add extra flavor and intrigue to your average BBQ. Try adding grilled eggplant slices or Portobello mushrooms to your plate. Alternatively, add some chopped apple, orange, pear or mango to your salad for a fresh hit of flavor.
3. Bring fruit, vegetable sticks and dip for snacks.
Fruit and vegetable sticks are healthy and easy to prepare snacks that can please the fussiest of eaters, with the right dip. Hummus, tzatziki, salsa or Greek yoghurt all taste great and are healthier dip options.
Happy BBQing!
