I will be covering a wide array of topics, some of which are discussed in the book at much greater length, and some which actually go beyond book’s content.

Between these posts and the book itself, your overall knowledge of the latest science in this field of study will SKYROCKET.

Oh, and if that wasn’t enough you will also be treated to a sneak peek of a  number of the book’s most tantalizing recipes, to help you appreciate just how delicious eating in a nourishing way can be.

So, have I got your attention yet?

Good, because I know for a fact that there a ton of people out there who can benefit from all the good stuff that’s on the way.

I know this because acid reflux and GERD are common and often go on for long periods of time before any intervention is attempted.

Now that is a problem.

Acid Reflux, GERD & Heartburn Are Common Problems

Often used interchangeably acid reflux, GERD and heartburn aren’t exactly the same thing.

Acid reflux occurs when acids and enzymes flow out of the stomach and beyond the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES)  into the esophagus  – creating the symptomatic burning sensation in the esophagus that we often think of as heart burn.

The LES normally functions to allow food to enter the stomach from the esophagus, and to stop anything from the stomach re-entering the esophagus.

Failure in proper LES functionality can often lead to GERD – Gastroesophagela Reflux Disease, which may be diagnosed when episodes of acid reflux become persistent, pestering and painful.

According to the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation, 1 in 6 Canadians live with GERD and many more suffer from regular episodes of acid reflux without a GERD diagnosis.

Protein Pump Inhibitors (Also known as PPIs) are a common medication used in the pharmaceutical management of GERD ( & other conditions)  and happen to be among the most frequently used medications in Canada.

That says quite a bit about the size of the issue.

Interestingly enough, many people living with GERD do so for many years before any diagnosis is made.

This means of that millions of people worldwide may be dealing with regular reflux or GERD and not be receiving medical or lifestyle guidance.

While it’s no replacement for your doctor –  my book will help.

GERD & Acid Reflux – Long Term Annoyance, Long Term Consequences

I don’t remind tell anyone who has experienced acid reflux, GERD or digestive health issues of any kind, how disruptive they can be in one’s enjoyment of daily life.

But there’s a bit more to it than just day to day discomfort.

About one in ten longtime GERD-sufferers will go on to develop an inflammatory condition known as Barrett’s Esophagus which may require additional medical intervention and could lead to a slightly increased risk of later developing esophageal cancer.

The goal of my Easy 5 Ingredient Acid Reflux Cookbook is to help make sure we check all of the lifestyle and dietary boxes we can to help make sure you never get there.
