Genetically Modified Organisms, also known as GMOs, represent one of the most pervasive topics in modern nutrition discourse.
Formally described by the WHO – Genetically modified (GM) foods are foods derived from organisms whose genetic material (DNA) has been modified in a way that does not occur naturally, e.g. through the introduction of a gene from a different organism.
While it may sound like something out of a sci-fi film, the genetic modification of crops is a massive part of current agricultural practice.
And I know it’s a topic that has you equal parts intrigued and confused.
Fortunately, my wonderful intern Lara wrote a masterful 3-part series on the GMOs that will teach you everything you need to know, and probably a bit more.
Enjoy!
